All’s quiet on the Rumsfeld front, so what’s the other, “The Donald” been up to?

Well, it’s hard to say, but if he wants, he is free to stroll the Bavarian Alps without worry of prosecution of Guantanomo war crimes as earlier alledged by human rights advocates Wolfgang Kaleck and the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights. In November 2006, Kaleck, et al, brought charges against Rumsfeld and cronies at the German Federal Attorney General’s Office (Generalbundesanwalt). The German prosecutor recently decided against launching an investigation into Rumsfeld, and Kaleck is now seeking to file similar war crimes charges in Spain. Ugh. The tree doesn’t grow through Spain either, Wolfgang.

This past September, 2007, Rumsfeld received a one year appointment as a Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, joining other Fellows; conservatives George Shultz, retired Army Gen. John P. Abizaid and now non-presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. There I was on the century’s cusp all prickly and panicked about societal sobering Y2-K stuff like was the calendar on my Casio capable and would the microwave mesh with the millennium and how our anatomy might go anthropomorphic. Dood, what a commoner. Seems in 1999 the wunderkind knew a bunch better and pow-wowed in London to put an end to the family feud of the Holy Roman Empire Empire. You’ll find those having all the right stuff like Freddy and Zsa Zsa, but dang if I could find Julie Andrews or Christopher Plummer.
